Woodland is based on the Lily Leaf and Willow Bough designs.

Woodland is a simple, subtle and versatile all-over leaf pattern. Originally it was taken from the background pattern of Lily wallpaper designed by Morris in 1874. Lily Leaf was a simple small-scale leaf design, came in a color palette to work beautifully with a vast array of Morris prints and was printed as a delicate semi-plane. One more source of inspiration for Woodland was Willow Bough, with its curving willow branches. Many of Morris's wallpaper designs were based on plant forms which he studied at first hand. Some of his patterns, such as 'Trellis' and 'Garden Tulip' were drawn from plants in his own gardens. Others - such as 'Willow Bough' - were inspired by wild flowers and trees which he had seen on country walks.
